Skyline Contracting Showed Our Skills as a Steep Slope Roofing Contractor with This Lake House Project
As any experienced roofer can tell you, no two roofing projects are exactly alike—but some turn the entire roofing process on its head. Our Project Spotlights blog series is our way of sharing these unique jobs, and today’s is certainly adventurous! This one required all of our skills as a roofing contractor, navigating a complex roof with a steep slope to complete a full replacement.
At Skyline Contracting , we’re always ready to take on a roofing challenge. This project had several challenges of its own, but our team was able to pass the test with flying colors, not only completing it within our timeline, but finishing the job early! Let’s take a look at this roof replacement.
Background and Client: Homeowners on Lake Lanier
Our client for this project came to us via a referral from a past customer. Many of our new customers are sent our way through referrals, which we feel communicates the quality of our work very strongly.
In this case, the new client was a homeowner who owned a house on Lake Lanier. This is a neighborhood full of large, beautiful homes, and theirs had a roof that was giving them some trouble. They reached out to the Skyline Contracting team for an inspection, and after thoroughly looking over the roofing system, we determined a roof replacement would be needed.
The Project: A Roof Replacement to Fix a Stubborn Leak
This client originally called us due to water damage they had noticed in the home, potentially indicating a leak. We inspected the roof and diagnosed the cause: the roof was in very poor shape and would need to be fully replaced.
With so many nice properties in the neighborhood, we also wanted to make sure the client got a new roof that would more than measure up to the others. However, their primary motivation was fixing the leak for the long term!
The Challenges: A Steep and Complex Roof
We’ve worked on many steep slope roofs over the years—and plenty with complex architectural designs. But this Lake Lanier roof was one of the most extreme we’ve seen.
It had countless intricate cuts, sharp angles, and architectural details that demanded a high level of precision. Every section required careful attention just to plan the tear-off.
Prioritizing Safety on a Steep Roof
Steep slope roofing isn’t just a technical challenge—it’s a safety challenge, too. Roofs like this one require specialized safety gear to keep our crew secure on the job.
At Skyline Contracting, we take crew safety seriously. Our team used full-body harnesses and rigging systems (pictured below) to safely navigate the roof’s sharp pitch and multi-angle structure.
These safety protocols, combined with our standard best practices, helped us move efficiently while staying protected.

Delivering a Beautiful New Roofing System
With our work laid out for us, our team started moving. We worked with the client to understand their preferences in terms of aesthetics, ultimately settling on GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in their Weathered Wood color.
Why We Chose GAF Timberline HDZ Shingles:
- Tough against wind and hail
- Designed to prevent future leaks
- Weathered Wood color complements the lakeside views
- Backed by industry-leading warranties

This project was a team effort from start to finish. We coordinated carefully to complete a full tear-off of the old roof, install the new one, ensure everything was up to code, and protect the rest of the property from damage—all while keeping safety at the top of our minds. And while we estimated three days to complete this roof replacement, our team pulled it off in just two!
