Skyline Contracting Built a New Gable Roof and Porch Extension for This Gainesville Homeowner
Most of the time in roofing projects, a roofer will be replacing an existing roof with a new one, much like the previous one. While materials may change and components like the decking and underlayment may be replaced, the overall structure typically remains the same. For this project, though, we built a completely new porch, along with a complete conversion to a gable roof to add curb appeal.
At Skyline Contracting, we love sharing unique and interesting projects, and this one is definitely worth highlighting. Here’s how we brought it to life.

Background and Client: A Longtime Customer
For this project, we were happy to work once more with a customer we’ve previously completed work for, located here in Gainesville. While of course we love to expand our customer base, we’re always delighted to hear from clients who were thrilled with our previous work.
What’s more, while previously we had completed some roof and home repairs for this client, this new project was a much more significant undertaking.
The Project: A New Porch—Bigger and Better
Our client reached out to us to ask if we could replace their home’s porch. They weren’t just looking to rebuild the original porch the same way, however. Instead, they wanted the new porch to be extended, opening the space a bit more and making it an ideal place to gather.
Project Upgrades at a Glance:
- Extended porch by six feet
- Replaced old flat porch roof with a gable roof
- Repainted to match the updated exterior
- Installed black gutters for a modern look
- Preserved landscaping by hand-digging plants

Why We Built a Gable Roof
There was another element of this project that our customer wanted us to take care of. Instead of the old, flat roof line that their previous porch created, they wanted something with a bit more depth and visual intrigue.
They asked if the new porch could have a gable roof instead of the old style, creating a new look. This would involve completely rebuilding the roof over the porch as well, but it wasn’t a problem for the Skyline Contracting team!
Taking Care of Our Customer
With the expectations laid out for us, our team got to work. The client wanted a fast, effective, thorough, and clean job from start to finish, and our entire team operated throughout the project with this in mind.
Project manager Nathan headed up this job and has prioritized keeping the worksite as clean as possible—no small task given all the demolition work needed to start the project. We also took steps to preserve the rest of the home while working, protecting it from damage. Nathan even took the time to dig up all of the existing plants that had been just below the original porch.
A Breathtaking Before and After
While the porch served its purpose before, the newly upgraded porch is larger, more open, and much more welcoming. Meanwhile, the additional changes to the paint, the gutters, and, of course, the new gable roof all served to completely overhaul this home’s curb appeal. Check out this transformation!
